[How-To] Spy onto the Social Media Conversations

If you are someone who is already using Google Alerts or Tweetbeep to keep track of the various conversations happening around the internet, you would be amused to learn that Spy, a Google App Engine deployed application can take all this a step further and let you keep track of the conversations happening in the Social Media.

Earlier before it got aquired by Twitter, people used Summize: Realtime Twitter Search for  tracking conversations happening on Twitter. As conversations on the social media happen in lot of ways which include, Blog Comments, Twitter, Friendfeed, Flickr etc… it becomes essential that their exists a single application which can help you keep track of the realtime conversations happening on these platforms. Here is when Spy comes into picture.

Essentially, Spy can be seen as giving a view to the data flow happening between various Social Media Websites. As the author of Spy, Ben Hedrington says

I combined feeds from Summize and Friendfeed to bring together the posts over a given time period and set them to scroll using some packaged JavaScript libraries, this created a simple interface that put in your face exactly what is being said about something that is relevant to you, say a conference you happen to be at, a company you work for, watch a news event unfold in front of your eyes before the US media is reporting it or maybe the news on your favorite presidential candidate.

Though, mostof the results are Twitter dominated, but Spy also does gives you results from other social media, thereby giving you a bigger and a better picture of the conversation taking place as a whole in the social media sphere.

Do try out Spy and let me know your comments.
