[How-To] Choose A Secure Password
Often we end up having passwords which are derived either from our name, date of birth, our city of birth of the name of our pet. With a little social engineering, such passwords are easy to crack. If someone finds this password, they would have access to their mail, their Blog, their Forum posts and other information. Linux Tip shares an interesting approach to choose a password which is secure and can also be remembered easily.
The aim of this tutorial post is to create easy to remember, secure passwords. The approach centres around creating passwords as part of two units.
- the strong static part with at least 8 characters and
- the changeable part to remember the purpose of the usage.
e.g. Every morning at 7; I kiss my Honey! = Ema7;IkmH!
The Changeable Part: Try figuring out some short usage terms. A few example can be like
Hotmail Account hot1 or hot2
Bank Account city or cy
Next, all you need to do is , just fix them together and you are ready with your secure password.
My bank account: cyEma7;IkmH!
My mail password: hot1Ema7;IkmH!
Remember to regularly change the static part of your password depending on your security needs and also the website’s password policy.
Please do not use these passwords.
The other interesting way of creating secure passwords is by using something called as Password Chart.
