[Freeware] Take ScreenShots with ease using LightScreen

If you are looking at an easy to use, no frills attached Screen capture software, LightScreen is worth trying. It is designed only to take screenshots and nothing more. So what this means is that you can take Screen captures of the Screen, Windows or the Selected Area and LightScreen will save them in a pre-defined folder. It also names the file based on the naming convention of your selected choice. Choices include having timestamp or numbering as part of the filenames. LightScreen currently allows for JPG, PNG and BMP format images. 

Lightscreen is a small tool to automate the process of saving and cataloging screenshots, it operates as a hidden background process that is invoked with a customizable hotkey and then saves a screenshot file to disk according to the user’s preferences.

My earlier screen capture softwares though good and rich in features never allowed for this simplicty.

In my opinion, Lightscreen is a very good software if your requirements only include capturing screenshots and relying on other editing softwares to make them juicy. Do give it a try and share your views (good or bad) in the comments below.

[Update] LightScreen 1.0 is now released. The software has added following features in its latest release.

  • Dynamic translations.
  • Screenshot ‘Save As..’
  • Cursor support.
  • Multi-monitor support.
