Google prepares for GDrive, Yahoo Briefcase to Shutdown

Going by the reports on the internet, it seems that Google is certainly serious about GDrive. Brian Ussery, has noticed an interesting reference to a file used by Google Pack. Going by the description of GDrive in the file, 

GDrive provides reliable storage for all of your files, including photos, music and documents. GDrive allows you to access your files from anywhere, anytime, and from any device – be it from your desktop, web browser or cellular phone.

Going by the description included in the referenced file, Google’s GDrive will provide a software utility to help you upload and download your files from any device ranging from your desktop to your cell phone.

The other news for the day is about Yahoo Briefcase, the service is shutting down on 30th March 2009. As far as i remember Yahoo Briefcase was one of the first tool that allowed users to store files online and then access them from anywhere. However, Yahoo Briefcase never provided more than 30 MB storage space. Being a first mover in an uncharted territory doesnt always places you in an advantage. The advantage always comes from reaching there first and continously innovating.

So if you have any of your documents in lying around in Yahoo Briefcase, do move them out before you lose them forever.

It will be interesting to keep a watch on the GDrive rollout. Am curious about the storage space being offered and also the platforms GDrive would support. In my opinion, they might release the Windows version first, before releasing out the Mac and Linux version. Lets wait and watch.
