Since sometime Twitter has stopped sending tweets and DMs as SMS to the users owing to cost issues. However, for those of you who still wish to receive such messages through SMS, Twe2 is the new buzzword.Twe2 allows you to configure your mobile number and map it with your twitter account, so that you receive all the tweets via SMS.
In order to get started with Twe2 all you need to do is as follows
1.) Login to twe2.com
2.) Confirm your mobile number
Once you have confirmed your mobile number, you will start getting twitter alerts for your twitter userid as SMS from Twe2.

Twe2 is partnered with the Wadja Network to bring you an awesome free Twitter SMS alert service. To keep Twe2 free, we append an advert from the network onto each SMS from the advertising network which in our mind is a small price to pay for such a cool service.

You can even configure Twe2 to send you sms alerts only between a specific time on specific days. So if you only want to receive sms alerts on Monday and wednesday between 9am to 8pm you can configure Twe2 accordingly.
There are definitely a lot of interesting Twitter Applications like Twe2 which exist today, but many users are still not using them or are hesitant to use them because of the fact that these services still rely on taking your Twitter username and password combination. It would be in the interest of all Twitter users if Twitter implements oAuth at the earliest.
