Panda Security, the company behind Panda Internet Security and Panda Antivirus is taking antivirus software to the cloud. Panda Cloud Antivirus Beta, the new product from Panda Security will use Panda’s cloud computing technology, Collective Intelligence to detect viruses, malware, rootkits and heuristics. It claims to take advantage of  intelligence gathered from the “millions of users” to identify new viruses and malware in real time. The company claims to detect new viruses and malwares within 6 mins.

The real key to Panda Cloud Antivirus is in the Collective Intelligence servers. The installation for Panda Cloud Antivirus is very light and has been designed to act only when necessary. Because the antivirus is on the cloud, you dont need to worry about the updates. 

Cloud Computing certainly makes sense to the computers and users who are always “on”, but the key question is what happens when the users are not connected to the internet? Panda clarifies that when you are not connected to the cloud ( internet) , you are guarded against the most common threats in ciruclation by maintaining a local cache of the collective intelligence.

The Cloud Antivirus works by classifying threats into executables that must be scanned immediately, and non-executables that are checked at a lower priority–usually when the computer is idle.
