Identify any language online with Land ID

LangId is a free web service that allows you to identify in which language was written any text you need to analyze. LangID provides you the option of identifying any language through multiple ways like text, api, twitter and email.

At the websites, you can identify the language by copy/pasting the text in the specified input area in the website. You can even identify language by Uploading text to be identified in a .doc, .pdf, .xls, .xlsx.

LangID even has a twitter integration. You can get your identification directly from Twitter.  Just follow these simple steps :

  • 1. Follow @langidbot
  • 2. Tweet @langidbot text to identify
  • 3. Receive your response in less then 5 mins!

If for some reason you don’t want to follow LangId bot, you can even just tweet them but remember that you have to set the possibility to read the @replies sent to you from everybody (this can be done from Twitter settings).

If you have got an email in a language you dont understand, you can just forward it to LangID and their bot will answer you with the language identified. The email address to send your messages to is auto.id [at] langid.net. Please note LangID doesn’t  support attachments.

LangID also has an API support. By now they support Json and Xml output formats and just a parameter. The Apis can be queried from curl, wget or similar softwares/libraries. You can learn more about the API Support at  http://langid.net/identify-language-from-api.html

If you are looking at a standalone desktop software for identifying Languages, you can check out Polyglot. Read my review about it at Identify Language Of Any Text with PolyGlot.
