[How-To] Find Your Lost or Stolen iPhone and Wipe Out any Sensitive data remotely.
Apple iPhone 3.0 OS was released a few days back and is available for free for upgrade for iPhone users. The iPhone 3G S which was released on the 19th Jun by default has the iPhone 3.0 OS installed. With the availability of iPhone OS 3.0, MobileMe members can now use Find My iPhone to help recover a lost iPhone or remotely wipe the personal data on it.
In order to get started with finding your lost iPhone and wiping off any data remotely you need to first upgrade to the Apple iPhone 3.0 OS. Once upgraded, follow the steps below
1.) On your iPhone’s Home screen, tap Settings.
2.) Tap Mail, Contacts, and Calendars.
3.) Make sure Fetch New Data is set to Push.
4.) Select your MobileMe account and turn on Find My iPhone.
It is also recommended that you setup a Passcode lock on your iPhone. This is important, so that only you can turn the “Find My iPhone” feature on or off. In order to set Passcode lock, go to Settings and tap General followed by Passcode lock.
If your iPhone is stolen or lost, login to www.me.com/account using any available computer to access Find My iPhone ( under Account) and display your iPhone’s approximate location on a map. You can even write a message to be displayed on its screen, or even play a continous sound for two minutes even if the iPhone is set to silent mode. Using the same menu, you can even remtely wipe out your personal data permanently and restore the iPhone to its factory settings.
