This article lists down 5 Digital Camera Add-ons / Equipment which are essential to get that perfect shot and to take your photography experience to the next level.

1.) Get enough Memory (Memory Card)

Most of the digital cameras come with a maximum of 1GB. While 1GB is not bad, but having less than that is no fun, especially if you are a shutter bug. While memory cards can be re-used, unfortunately, they dont have an endless capacity. If you are planning to go for a vacation, ensure that you have atleast 2GB of memory which will allow you to take pictures even at higher resolution.

Various types of memory cards available in the market are CompactFlash, Secure Digital & MultiMedia Cards,xD Picture Cards,Memory Stick, MicroDrive, SmartMedia. There are also various types of card readers available in the market and having oneof them also helps as it allows you to download the photos without any sort of external device.

Before buying a memory card, do check the specifications of your camera to ensure what type of memory card and maximum memory size is supported by your camera.

2.) Protect your new camera with a good case (Case)

Protecting your camera from dust and scratches enhances the life of your camera and keeps it going for many photos. In order to protect your camera, i suggest that you also buy a good case. These days, as part of marketing campaigns, most of the companies do give free cases, however, if you haven’t been lucky enough, you can always buy one good case for your camera.

Important points to note when buying a camera case are

a.) Try fitting your camera into the case, the camera must not be loosely fitted.

b.) Buy a case which also offers divisions for various accessories, like extra batteries or memory card.

3.) Shoot steady photographs (Tripod)

Tripods are an essential add-on if you are even slightly serious about photography. Tripods help in providing a stable ground for your pictures, they are also very helpful when you have to take images in low light areas.

If you own a point and shoot camera like a Cannon A 470, which is no-frill, entry level, point and shoot camera, you can consider buying a compact tripod. However, if you own a D-SLR style camera, you would need a slightly larger tripod.

While buying a tripod for your camera, a few things to keep in mind are

a.) Check for the extension length of the tripod. Most of the tripods usually range from 2 feet to 6 feet.

b.) Ensure that the tripod is not very heavy, else, carrying it out during shoots, might become quite a pain and a demotivator.

4.) Protect your camera screen with a screen guard (Screen Protector)

Digital cameras also come with a screen to pre-view the images before shooting. However, digital camera screens are very delicate and prone to scratches. One of the best way to protect your digital camera screen is by going for screen protectors. They not only protect your screen from scratches, they also help you get rid of unwanted dirt.

If you have never put a screen protector by yourself, i would advise that you ask some professional to do it for you. The key point to remember when putting on screen protector is that you must put it in a way that air bubbles don’t get caught in between the screen and the screen protector.

5.) Do you have enough Batteries for the shoot? (Battery)

Imagine yourself having all the above accessories and a perfect location and you run out of battery. While the digital camera’s today have got much better in terms of resolution and features offered, they have started to consume more battery. So before you head out for that perfect shoot, ensure that you carry enough battery with you.

Some key points to remember when buying extra battery for your digital camera

1.) I strongly recommend that you invest in batteries which have a rating of atleast 2100 mAH. As a thumb rule, the higher the rating, the longer your battery life.

2.) Before buying the extra batteries, do check the specifications of your digital camera with regards to the support and size for the batteries.

Having the above 5 Add-ons will certainly help you get more from your digital camera.
