[How-To] Auto Translate a Feed Using Google Reader’s Send To Feature

Google Reader’s latest update made it more social and allows users to send feed items directly to various services without having to leave the reader panel. I also wrote earlier about the Google Reader feature which allows you to translate foreign language feeds into your language on the fly.

Today, in this article we will learn how to use Google Reader’s latest update to do the foreign language translation manually. While, as compared to the on-the-fly translation which Google reader already supports, this doesnt sound like a very good idea, but it definitely gives you a picture of what all the Send-To feature is capable of.

You need to first add an “Autotranslate” custom link. Follow the steps below

1.) Click on Settings link from the Google Reader.

2.) Next click on Send To tab. Click on the “Create a Custom link” button.

3.) You need to enter the Name, URL and Favicon url for the custom link. Enter the values as mentioned below

Name: Autotranslate
URL: http://translate.google.com/translate?u=${url}
Icon URL: http://translate.google.com/favicon.ico

4.) Next, in order to use the custom link you just created, navigate to the foreign language blog and click on the Send To : Autotranslate ( as shown in image below).

5.) Once you click on the Send To Autotranslate , The translated blog will open in Google Translate and you will be be able to read the blog.
