While the research teams at various universities and medical colleges and hospitals are busy trying to solve the puzzle of impact of radiation from the cell phones. In the past, there have been several studies which have linked health situations like Brain Cancer,  Salivary Gland Tumors, Migraines and vertigo and behavioral problems with radiations emitted from cellphones. Cell phones emit radiation to send voice and text messages to the other caller.

In a recent effort, Environmental Working Group has done a study which surveys scientific research on cellphone health risks. The report provides data for most of the current cellphones in use.

From the comprehensive study done by EWG ( complete report), in this article, we will focus on the radiations emitted by Smartphones. Also, in the report, “W/kg” stands for watts per kilogram, a measurement for power density.

10 SmartPhones with highest radiation.

1.) Kyocera Jax S1300 (1.55 W/kg)

2.) T-Mobile myTouch 3G (1.55 W/kg)

3.) Blackberry Curve 8330 (1.54 W/kg)

4.) Palm Treo 600 (1.05 – 1.53 W/kg)

5.) T-Mobile Shadow (1.53 W/kg)

6.) Blackberry Curve 8300 (1.51 W/kg)

7.) Palm Treo 650 (0.54 – 1.51 W/kg)

8.) Blackberry Bold 9000 (1.51 W/kg)

9.) Blackberry Curve 8300 (1.51 W/kg)

10.) Kyocera Melo S1300 (1.11 – 1.50 W/kg)

iPhone 3GS has a rating of 0.52 - 1.19 W/kg, which is lies in the middle range when it comes to the most radiation and least radiation emitting phones. If you are planning to buy a phone, you might want to consider the radition ratings for all the phones here.

10 SmartPhones with lowest radiation.

1. Nokia 9300i (0.21 W/kg)

2. Nokia 7710 (0.22 W/kg)

3. T-Mobile MDA Wiza200 (0.28 W/kg)

4. Samsung Impression SGH-a877 (0.35 W/kg)

5. Nokia 9300 (0.44 W/kg)

6. Samsung Propel Pro SGH-i627 (0.47 W/kg)

7. Samsung Gravity SGH-t459 (0.49 W/kg)

8. BlackBerry Storm 9530 (0.57 W/kg)

9. Nokia E90 (0.59 W/kg)

10. Nokia N96 (0.68 W/kg)

To be on the safe side, follow the tips below to reduce exposures.

1.) Buy a Low Radiation Phone.

2.) Use a Headset or Speaker as they emit less radiation.

3.) Your cellphone emits more radiation when you talk or text, so talk less and listen more.

4.) Hold the phone away from your body.

5.) Choose texting over talking.

6.) If you have poor signal strength, your cellphone emits more radiation as it tries to continuously poll for signal.

7.) Young children’s brains absorb twice the cell phone radiation as an adult’s therefore, keep children away from cellphones.

I am pretty disappointed seeing some of the major BlackBerry models in the list of cellphone’s which emit most radiation. What is your reaction after looking at this list of most and least radiation emitting smartphones?
