[How-To] Change Name Of Registered Owner in Windows

Has it ever happened to you that you wanted to change the name of the registered owner in Windows installation? Maybe, you bought a second hand computer with pre-installed version of Windows, or your company got acquired and now the name of the registered organization has to be changed? If yes, this article will help you walkthrough the process of changing name of registered user in Windows.

As changing name of registered (owner) user of Windows, requires modification to the Registry, its advised that you backup your registry before following the steps below.

Follow the steps mentioned below to change the name of the registered user in Windows.

1.) Fire up your registry editor engine by typing “regedit” ( without quotes) at Run.

2.) Navigate through the Registry Editor to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion.

3.) Change the values that are assigned to the RegisteredOwner and RegisteredOrganization keys to reflect the new ownership information.

After you have followed the steps above, you can view the updated information using the winver command at Run.

Typing winver at Run shows the updated Windows Version information which also includes the Owner details.
