[How-To] Increase Your Online Sales Using Twitter

Twitter is no more only about sharing what you are doing. People have found various new and interesting ways of using Twitter and that is exactly why it has been able to take over the mainstream media. People turn to Twitter today for any real-time-search they intend to do. Needless to say, with all this traction and huge user base, Twitter also has got huge potential for companies, marketing affiliates and all those who are selling something over the internet.

In this article, i will discuss with you 5 tips about increasing your online sales using Twitter. These tips are part of the video lecture given by BigCommerce’s co-founder Mitchell Harper.The tips are generic and are useful for anyone willing to engage with his /her customers. Afterall, isn’t engaging with the customer a pre-requisite to any sales?

Below are the five tips discussed in the video lecture by Mitchell

1.) Share useful content every day – In my opinion, this is certainly a very practical tip for anyone following another person on twitter. Lets get real, we don’t follow people on twitter to know what they had for breakfast or which movie they are planning to go for? We follow them for useful information they have, which they can share.

2.) Participate in Conversations - Participating in conversations helps you build better bonding with the person on the other side. Do remember, you don’t participate just for the heck of it; you participate to add more value to the conversation or to add another perspective to it. If you find conversations about your brand, participate effectively.

3.) Link to your Twitter Profile – Another interesting tip. With more and more people starting to use Twitter, its very important that your twitter follower base. Add link to your twitter profile on emails and your website. You can also add the link in the newsletters you send around. For example, at Technofriends, i give the link of my twitter profile at the end of every post. This helps the readers of my website, find me and follow me on twitter. 4.) Reuse Testimonials on Twitter – If you get any good feedback about your product or website or brand, do put them up on your testimonials page. Re-tweet them. People ( including me) often ignore this step, but, i guess, with twitter becoming more and more mainstream with every passing day, its better you start following this tip sooner than later. I am going to do that as well. :-)

5.) Post Coupons on Twitter – If you sell something, its important you give some love to your twitter followers as well, post some coupons or new discounts exclusively on twitter or for those who follow you. You can run a marketing campaign asking more people to follow you and throw them a coupon or a free shipping service.
