[How-To] Stop QuickTime From Playing Audio Files in Browser
If you have Quicktime default setup installed on your computer, you must have noticed that whenever you click on a MP3 link on your browser, the audio file is played in the browser using Quicktime.
In order to ensure that Quicktime doesn’t play your audio files played through the browser, follow the steps below. The steps below, modify the file association and associate the audio files with Windows Media Player.
Also, important to note is the fact that some software updates like iTunes can modify the file association, if that ever happens, follow the steps below again.
1.) Close Internet Explorer.
2.) Next, Run Windows Media Player, navigate to the “Tools” menu by pressing ALT + T. type ALT+T to get the “Tools” menu.
3.) Next, click on Options, and then File Types tab.
4.) Check the checkbox with MP3 audio file.
5.) Next, open Quicktime Player, click on Edit menu.
6.) Next, click on Preferences item and then the Quicktime Preferences sub-item.
7.) Click on the File Types tab.
8.) Uncheck Audio, MPEG and MP3 checkbox.
9.) Click Ok and close Quicktime Player.
By following the steps above, you just modified the file association from Quicktime to Windows Windows Player. Now, when you click on the MP3 link, it will open outside your browser in Windows Media Player.
