[How-To] Share Printer On The Internet Using PrinterShare
If you are looking for simple, easy-to-do and free way of sharing your printer over the internet, you might want to read this article and also checkout PrinterShare.
PrinterShare allows you to share your printer over the internet in less than a minute and let other people connected to the Internet (your friends, relative and colleagues) print paper documents on it. With PrinterShare, you do not need to worry about the complex part of network sharing, permissions, access settings etc. PrinterShare automatically detects printers connected to your computer including local network printers. As long as you can print in it yourself, you can share the printer and let other people use it.
In order to get started with PrinterShare, follow the steps below
1.) Download and install the PrinterShare software as per your Operating System. PrinterShare software can be downloaded for Microsoft Windows, Mac and various Mobile platforms.
2.) Once downloaded, install the application.
3.) Once installed, launch the application. The application screen will ask you to login, at this, you can click on Create New Account button. You will be asked to enter a valid ( working) email address. PrinterShare will email you the userid and password combination.
4.) Next step is to share the printer. The window which opens next will contain the list of all the printers configured on your computer. You can share a printer from the list by clicking on the printer and clicking the “share” button. Doing so will share the printer over the internet.
5.) Now comes printing the documents. Once you have shared the printer, you will be required to send out the userid and password combination emailed earlier to you by Printershare to the clients / remote locations ( or remember it by yourself). The client’s machine ( remote machine from where you/others wish to print, must also contain PrinterShare software downloaded in step 1.
6.) When asked for userid and password combination, enter the userid and password from step 3.
7.) Next, once logged into the application, navigate to the menu titled Printer. Click on Find. Search for a printer by typing your userid in the textbox. The printer will be shown in remote printers list. Finding a printer is in fact finding an owner (a person), and then selecting from one of his shared printer. You will see whether the owner is online at this time and the printer is connected. PrinterShare won’t know whether there’s paper in the printer or not, and thats your headache
.
8.) On the client computer, PrinterShare will appear as a virtual printer. Whenever you wish to print to a remote printer you added, print the document by selecting PrinterShare as the printer.
In my view, PrinterShare is certainly a neat utility and can help you save some time by printing directly on the remote printer rather than emailing and then asking the concerned person to print the document.
What do you think of a service like PrinterShare? Personally, i have been using it to print some of my personal documents and images directly on my brother’s printer in Delhi.
