Google Announces Maps Navigation for Android 2.0

Google Maps has already been providing directions to millions of its users since its launch in 2005. While, Google maps, in its current form is cool, it seriously doesn’t go well when you are driving. In order to solve this problem, Google has announced the next step for Google Maps for mobile: Google Maps Navigation (Beta) for Android 2.0 devices.

Google Maps for Android 2.0 offers some cool features like latest map and business data, search and search by voice ( in english), traffic view, Google Street View, satellite view and car dock mode.

The first phone to have Google Maps Navigation and Android 2.0 is the Droid from Verizon. Google Maps Navigation is initially available in the United States. And like other Google Maps features, Navigation is free.

In my opinion, this is a super cool offering from Google. An internet connected GPS navigation system with voice guidance will certainly make companies like Garmin and TomTom run for their money. Also, interesting to note is the fact that Google is pushing Android with some real cool application. Finally, in the end, for the consumers its real good news as the internal competition between companies will lead to more innovation and price cuts for the products. Google certainly has changed the game.
