India has more than 500 million Telecom Subscribers
It is now official that India has more than 500 million telecom subscribers as of September 30th 2009. To be exact as per the report India has now 509 million subscribers ( and growing).
Key highlights from the report released by TRAI are
- Total Telephone subscriber base reaches 509 Million.
- Wireless subscription reaches 471.7 Million.
- Wireline subscription declines to 37.3 Million.
- 14.98 Million new additions in Wireless.
- Wireline subscription declines by 0.02 Million.
- Overall Tele-density reaches 43.50.
- Broadband subscription is 7.21 million.
Wireless Service: Service Provider wise net additions during the month (in percentage)

This is encouraging news and certainly something that was set to happen given the fact that we have been having call rates which are touching 1 paise per second ( for foreign readers, 4600 paise = 1 USD).
While on the telecom story in India, if you are a mobile subscriber in India, do remember that your phone will stop working from 1st December, if it doesnt have a valid IMEI number.
