DotWhat.net is a site dedicated to providing you with detailed information on file extensions. This site is based on a huge database offering file extension information, mainly (but not exclusive to) the Microsoft Windows, MAC OS X and Unix based operating systems.

The website provides information related to a file extension, the operating system it works on and what program is needed to open the file.

You can search for your file extension by providing the extension in the search box and press Go. Alternatively, If you know the first character of the extension you wish to query, simply click the relevant letter in the A-Z navigation above.

You will then be given a listing of every file extension in DotWhat’s database that matches your query. This listing is in alphabetical order so you can scroll through the list easily to find the extension you are looking for. If you find there is more than one entry for the file extension, don’t worry – as the next page will still display all the matching file extensions. Click on the file extension you wish to view to continue.
