I covered the Torrent terminology in my earlier article titled Complete Torrent Lingo Guide (Understanding Torrent Terminology) where, I wrote about, trackers and BitTorrent clients and also how the torrent download works. Just in case, if you haven’t read that post ( do read it now, click here), Torrent downloads work on the BitTorrent protocol and the BitTorrent client makes use of the trackers to download / share bits of data.

While downloading torrents is not too tough, there are times when the torrent traffic is shaped at either the proxy server level of at the ISP level. There can be times when you cannot install BitTorrent clients on your machine, owing to several legal regulations, HttpTorrents is an interesting service which allows you to download files over HTTP , i.e. you can download the movie you intended to download through the torrent client, right from your browser.

HttpTorrents makes use of KickAssTorrents for its tracker needs. KickAssTorrents currently provides around 4000 direct download links.

In order to download torrent files over HTTP with HttpTorrents, you will need a torrent hash. Once you have the torrent hash, enter it in the search box provided at HttpTorrents and press Search. Based on the torrent hash, HttpTorrents will provide you with a list of files that you can download. From there, you can download files off HttpTorrents servers.

Everyone can use httpTorrents, but in the future the download speed and number of simultaneous downloads will be limited for free users. Those who want to use it more than occasionally will have the option to sign up for a premium account without restrictions.

Since the service is actually hosting files (on an external CDN) it might run into complaints from copyright holders. The owner of the site told TorrentFreak that he’s not too worried about the legal implications, and hopes that a takedown policy will prevent the site from running into trouble.

While direct download of files is always easy, if you are looking out for higher speed solution, downloads initiated through BitTorrent clients still remain a preferred choice.
