Check If Your Website is Mobile Friendly With W3C mobileOK Checker

Mobile traffic has been increasing on the internet and its becoming even more important for a website to have a friendly mobile interface as well. The common practice employed by most of the websites is to have a seperate mobile domain and redirect all the traffic coming from Mobile devices to the mobile subdomain. While, this is a neat practice, not many websites are still “mobile friendly”.

W3C mobileOK Checker performs various tests on a Web Page to determine its level of mobile-friendliness. The tests are defined in the mobileOK Basic Tests 1.0 specification. A Web Page is mobileOK when it passes all the tests.

If you are someone who is still wondering as to why it matters to make your website mobile friendly, here is an explanation for you

Compared to a regular desktop computer, a mobile device may be regarded as limited at first glance: smaller screen size, smaller processing powers, smaller amount of memory, no mouse, and so on. Compared to fixed data connections, mobile networks can be slow and often have a higher latency. Compared to a user sitting in front of his computer, the user on the go has limited time and is easily distracted. On top of these constraints, the mobile world is highly fragmented: many different devices, each of them defining a unique set of supported features.

For these reasons, although most mobile devices may render Web documents, the user experience when browsing the Web on a mobile device is often poor when a Web document hasn’t been designed with mobility in mind.

In order to get started, navigate your browser to W3C mobileOK Checker and enter the address of the page your wish to analyze in the input box. Once entered, press the button titled “Check”. You will then be presented with results of the check.
