Bharti Airtel is India’s Top Paymaster ( Top 10 Paymasters)
As per the survey conducted by Economic Times (ET), Bharti Airtel has emerged as India’s Top Paymaster, followed by software giant Infosys, and oil and gas biggie ONGC. GAIL, Hero Honda Motors, Wipro, NALCO, NTPC, Reliance Industries and Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) occupied the remaining slots on the list.
While ET doesn’t give any details on the way this list was arrived at, the presence of some of the energy companies (PSU’s) does make things look interesting. My own guess is that this list is arrived by dividing total number of employees by total money spent on salaries ( both these details are public). While, this does give an average / median , it definitely cannot be attributed as the best way to arrive at a list of this structure.
Below is the table with details about the rank, name and average salaries given out in March 2008 and March 2009 by the company.
