One of the possible causes of a slow computer is a fragmented hard disk. If you are new to the term Fragmented Disks and Defragmentation, well its very easy to understand the two using the example below.

The term Fragmented disk means that the information on the hardrive is all over the place thus making the computer take more time to look for the information or the file. For example, imagine that you are going to dress up and your shoes are in the terrace, your shirt on the attic, your underwear is in the garage, etc. it will take a lot of time to sort and get all the necessary items for you to dress.Its the same process on a computer, if the data is scattered all around, the seek time of the disk is longer. If you run Defragmentation, the program will put all your files in contiguous sectors which means that your disk heads will be quicker at finding the files it needs to run your programs.

When your computer has to run programs that contain hundreds of files, fragmenting causes serious degradation of performance. As the clusters of files on the hard disk become fragmented, they grow further apart and it starts taking longer for your computer to find and assemble all the pieces necessary to run the programs. In order to come over this situation, defragmenting your computer is essential.

Windows by default has a de-fragmentation utility which comes in-built. However, from experience, i can say that Windows Defragmentation utility is not a very fast utility and a lot of third party tools often fare better as compared to the inbuilt utility. My Verdict and Experience on Auslogics Disk Defrag

In my own view, Auslogics Disk Defrag is a dead simple utility to use, the utility doesn’t make carry out any analysis phase and is very fast as compared to the inbuilt-windows disk defragmentation utility.
