Twitter has launched Twitter SMS notifications in Australia for Telstra subscribers. This development is a result of partnership between Twitter and Telstra.

While its free to receive notifications and standard text messaging rates apply to sending. In order to receive notifications as SMS, you must have your device verified. You can give it a shot by sending “START” to 0198089488.

For those of you who are subscribers to providers which don’t any agreement with Twitter, you might just have to wait. There was earlier a service called  Twe2 which allowed you to get Twitter notifications for free, but that too is history now.
