[India] Telecom Subscriber count stands at 543.20 Million (Nov 09 report)

As per the latest numbers released by TRAI ( Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of India) for data up-to November 2009, India now has 543.20 million telecom subscribers. This is a pretty neat development (~3.34% growth), compared to the numbers we had in October 09,India had 500 million telecom subscribers. No doubt, this stunning growth has led to new series of cellphone numbers starting from 8 and also a 11 digit mobile number migration plan for India telecom subscribers.

Key points of the report released by TRAI are

  • Total Telephone subscriber base reaches 543.20 Million
  • Wireless subscription reaches 506.04 Million.
  • Wireline subscription declines to 37.16 Million.
  • 17.65 Million new additions in wireless.
  • Wireline subscription declines by 0.10 Million.
  • Overall Tele-density reaches 46.32.
  • Broadband subscription is 7.57 million.

The figure above shows Service Provider wise net additions during the month (in percentage) for Wireless Service. Clearly Tata is the leader followed by Bharti, Vodafone and Reliance.

2009 has been a very tough year for the Telecom providers in India with pricing dropping dead cheap. It will be interesting to see what 2010 brings with it.
