[iPhone App] Get Voice to Text Transcription on Your iPhone with Dragon Dictation
I was looking out for an app for iPhone which could do some Voice to text transcription and found the very interesting Dragon Dictation app for the iPhone ( my assumption is, you can use it with the iPod Touch too, but you will need a mic).
The app is available from the iTunes Store (link) for free and is very easy to use. Once you have installed the app, load it up on your iPhone and press the Record button ( red colored button). Once you have recorded, the app puts up the best estimation of what you recorded. The accuracy of the app is pretty neat and no doubt am already a big fan of it. If you want to enter punctuation marks in your dictation results, you need to explicitly pronounce them. For example the most commonly used punctuations are “comma”, “period”, “question mark”, “exclamation mark” etc.
You always have the option to edit the text in case you are not happy with the transcription. With Dragon Dictation you can also update your Facebook status, send notes and reminders to yourself, or Tweet to the world….all using your voice. So when you’re on-the-go, stop typing and start speaking – from short text messages to longer email messages, and anything in between.
Dragon Dictation streams audio data to a network server infrastructure. For reasonable performance, a good network or WiFi connection is mandatory. Ensure that you have more than the minimum signal strength with your iPhone™. If in doubt, download a website via the mobile phone’s browser and monitor the download speed.
Current implementation of Dragon Dictation is localized for US English only. You will need iPhone OS 3.1 or later.
