[Personal Finance] Track Shared Expenses with Buxfer for Free

During my good old college days, i used to share expenses with my roommates, unfortunately, those weren’t the days of Web 2.0 and we used to track expenses using paper and pen, thankfully, today, if you have to share expenses with someone ( a roommate, a colleague or your girlfriend {just in case}), you can rely on a wonderful money-management tool called Buxfer.

Buxfer is an online money-management / personal finance tool which offers several features for FREE. ( they do have paid plans too, but if you are oonly interested in basic stuff, FREE plan is good enough).

1.) Buxfer allows you to track all your accounts at one place. You can get balances from your checking, savings and credit card accounts. Also, you can then use Buxfer to get spending insights and monitor activity on all your accounts at a single place.

2.) If you do not wish to sign-up with the website, Buxfer allows you to login using your existing third party accounts like Facebook, Google, Yahoo, Live Id, OpenID etc. This is certainly a neat feature as most of the web users do not really want to create a new account and provide the website with all those details.( thanks to spam and numerous websites which do similar stuff).Alternatively, you can always sign-up with the service by filling up a small form.

3.) Buxfer even sends you Bill payment reminders when they are due.

4.) Using the report feature on Buxfer, you can dig into your finances, and know at a glance if you are spending more than you make.

5.) Track shared expenses with your friends/ roommates and get a simplified view of who pays whom and how much.

6.) Buxfer also provides an interface for Mobile (www.buxfer.com/mobile)

7.) Buxfer even offers a payment option to send or receive payments. This feature is however only available in the US.

8.) User data and login information is protected and encrypted by standard procedures such as Secure Sockets Layer (commonly known as SSL) to ensure privacy and security.

I earlier reviewed ArthaMoney which is a money management / personal finance solution for your accounts in India (read: ArthaMoney is India’s First Money Manager Portal (like Mint))

Personally, i am a big fan of money management tools and what i especially liked about Buxfer was its ease-of-use and simple user interface.
