5 Features I will be Looking Out for in Cameras of 2010

I earlier wrote about 5 Features I will be Looking Out for in Laptops of 2010, in this article, today, i will be discussing 5 features which “should” see improvement in cameras introduced in 2010.

So if you are planning to buy a Digital Camera in 2010, you might just want to go through these features. In future, i will also update this article, if and when the technological advancements come true.

Just in case if you cannot wait till these features ( mentioned below) start becoming common, you can go through my review titled Sony DSC-WX1 is a Feature Rich, Performance Packed compact Camera.

a.) Wide Angle Lenses

Wide Angle Lenses in a digital camera ( or any camera to be correct) basically allows a camera to capture the subject from less distance. In 2009, we did see camera coming out with wider angle lenses, however, its still not common. If you are buying a camera in 2010, do ensure you go for a camera which has a 24mm or a 28mm wide angle lens.

Personally, one of my reason of going ahead and buying Sony DSC-WX1 was because it has a wide angle 24mm lens.

b.) Higher Optical Zooms

Most of the digital camera of 2009 were usually about 3x-5x zoom ( basically the compact cameras), however, in my opinion, 5x – 10x zoom will become a norm.

c.) HD Video Support

Majority of present day point-and-shoot camera do not offer HD video recording. While standard video recording is OK, but if you are planning to buy a camera now, ensure you are getting one which has HD video format support.

In 2010, in my opinion, we can see more digital cameras ( compact cameras) which will offer video recording at 720p and a 30 frames-per-second rate.

d.) Low Light CCD and CMOS Sensors  ( better performance in low light)

Majority of point-and-shoot cameras manufactured in 2009 didnt do too well in terms of low light performance. In 2010, i am optimist that digital cameras will have better low light performance, thanks to low light optimized CCD and CMOS sensors.

Personally, one of my reason of going ahead and buying Sony DSC-WX1 was because it features a low light sensor.

e.) Mini SLRs

As of now SLRs are all about bulk and mass, but if things go well, we can expect some compact SLR’s in 2010. We did see Sony and Olympus announcing their series of compact SLR’s in 2009. Hopefully, the action will get hotter in 2010 and we can also expect a price drop.
