Don’t miss ‘once in a blue moon’ this New Year’s Eve
If you have sometime this Thursday, do look at the Sky while you are enjoying the New Year’s Eve. Blue Moon as the term goes, doesnt have anything to do with the color, rather it is the applied to the second full Moon in a calendar month. Blue Moon occurs every two and a half year.
The “Blue Moon” this thursday is a rare phenomenon because it happens to be falling on New Year’s Eve ( which happens once in twenty years).
As i mentioned earlier, the event has nothing to do with the color of the moon, its only about the timing.
[Update] There will also be a partial lunar eclipse on 31st December 2009. The eclipse will be visible to viewers from Sri Lanka and to the regions covering Alaska, Australia, Indonesia, India, South Africa, Europe including the British Isles and the Arctic regions.
The middle of the eclipse takes place at 12.53 a.m. on 1st morning. The eclipse ends at 2.58 a.m. on January 01, 2010 with the moon leaving the penumbra of the earth shadow. There is no harm of observing lunar eclipses with naked eyes.
