If you are looking out for a Dual-Screen Camera which falls under the compact “Point-and-Shoot” category, Samsung ST550 ( or the TL225 as it is also known in the US)  is quite a decent bet, worth your money.

ST550 / TL225 is a 12 megapixel, point-and-shoot camera which features a 1.5 inch LCD screen on the front thereby allowing you to take self-portrait pictures.

Below are some of the key points about Samsung ST550 / TL225

1.) Samsung ST550 / TL225 features a dual-screen display. The front screen is 1.5 inches while the display on the rear is a 3.5 inch LCD display.

2.) ST550 / TL225 comes with a 4.6X optical zoom and a 27mm Schneider-KREUZNACH wide angle lens. I am very keen on the adoption of Wide Angle Lenses and believe it will be a key feature of camera’s produced in 2010.

3.) The front LCD comes with a children’s mode ( i prefer to call it the clown feature) which basically prompts kids to show up those “special expressions” which only kids can make.

4.) Samsung ST550/TL 225 uses microSD and not the standard SD card ( which today’s laptops can easily read). You also get the USB cable to interface the camera with your computer. If you use an Eye-Fi card ( which was also listed as 5 Last Minute Gift Ideas) then you might have to re-think, as Eye-Fi works on the standard SD card which ST550/ TL225 doesn’t support. The micro SD card can support upto 4GB memory with Samsung ST550 / TL225.

5.) Samsung ST550 / TL225 also supports video recording at 720p at 30fps for high quality videos. ( Another key feature of camera’s to be produced in 2010.)

6.) Photographs produced by the camera are quite rich.

7.) Samsung ST550 / TL225 doesn’t feature a optical viewfinder and therefore you must depend on its rich LCD screen. The rear LCD screen has a high resolution of 1152k dots.The LCD screen itself is touch-screen.

8.) When it comes to battery life, Samsung ST550 / TL225 fares little poorly, the camera can give you around 120 shots between the battery charges.

Samsung ST 550 is available for a price of $243 from Amazon. In India, it is available for Rs.24,900.
