Avast Antivirus, one of the 3 Best Free Antivirus Software is now also a part of Google Pack. The Pack allows users to easily find, download, and install software with all downloaded applications automatically maintained and updated by Google. Other Google Pack software includes Adobe Reader, Skype, and Google’s own Chrome browser.

You can download the new avast! Free Antivirus 5.0 at pack.google.com if you live in certain non-English speaking parts of Europe. Google Pack has  added the free version of the Avast antivirus, but only for the following languages: French, German, Italian, Czech, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese, and Polish.However, when installed, for most of the languages, Avast antivirus is installed in English only.

The most recent tests from AV-Comparatives.org show that Avast, Avira and Microsoft Security Essentials are the best free antivirus software. “This year, avast! showed big improvements in its detection rates (esp. in the second half of 2009) and reduced its number of false alarms. Its on-demand scanning speed is one of the fastest. The recently released avast! v5 includes further enhancements (like a new graphical user interface) and new protection features.”

One of the very cool feature of Avast apart from the fact that it is free of cost, is, that Avast’s virus signatures are updated on a daily basis and it also offers real-time protection.
