Nokia to offer free GPS turn-by-turn navigation on its Smartphones

Nokia’s press conference where they promised to showcase “something big” is on its way and the big news is that Nokia too, like Google, will offer FREE GPS based turn-by-turn navigation on its Smartphones, worldwide.

Am sure, this will have a big impact on the revenues of GPS services providers like Garmin and TomTom. Google’s Android based phones already have the privilege to run voice based turn-by-turn navigation systems.

The new version of Ovi Maps includes high-end car and pedestrian navigation features, such as turn-by-turn voice guidance for 74 countries, in 46 languages, and traffic information for more than 10 countries, as well as detailed maps for more than 180 countries.

Users can download the new Ovi Maps via its official website. Free Events guides, free Lonely Planet guides and free Michelin guides are included, too.

  • Nokia N97 Mini
  • Nokia E72
  • Nokia E55
  • Nokia E52
  • Nokia 6730 classic
  • Nokia 6710 Navigator
  • Nokia 5800 XpressMusic
  • Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition
  • Nokia 5230

Nokia will launch  Smartphones with pre-installed new Ovi Maps starting March.
