Microsoft preparing for a Zune Phone Release? (Zune Software Updates to 4.2)
Microsoft has released a Zune PC Software update taking its version to 4.2.202.0.While, i still haven’t got my hands on to the software, Long Zheng has reported that Microsoft has secretly added support for a device which identifies itself as a Phone.
Long Zheng has found a few entries in the Zune.inf file which is used to associate devices with the Microsoft Zune driver.
New to this version of the driver which was actually generated on October 20, 2009 are several lines which pretty much speak for themselves.
Moreover, just as how the current three generation Zunes are represented by three different IDs, there are three unique class IDs and specifically Product IDs (PID) that identify three potential “Zune Phone” models (not storage capacities) off the bat. My bet is that they’re not just capacity variants (since various Zune capacities are all grouped under the same PID), but three actual hardware SKUs.

In my view, if this update is not referencing to any particular Zune phone, it can be an indication that Microsoft will soon add support for WM devices (Windows Mobile) to sync media through the Zune PC software.
