[India] Paypal Money sent back to the Sender? (WTF)

Seems like Paypal has changed some rules overnight. Today morning, while checking my email account, i found an email from Paypal which mentioned that my payment for the last month has been reversed back to the sender.

As known, i use Chitika for monetizing Technofriends and Chitika in turn transfers me the money using Paypal ( i have the option to get a check as well).

While, i am not aware of any changes which Paypal has made in the rules, and if they did, please any of the dude’s at Paypal come up with a communication regarding it? Infact, i had a few funds lying around in my Paypal account which i have immediately withdrawn (before paypal comes back with some other stupid rule).

Are you too suffering from Paypal’s current change in stance? Do mention in the comment. For now, this is the email text ( and image below), i got from Paypal.

Hello Vaibhav Pandey,

Your payment of xxx has been sent back to the sender of the payment.

We reversed this payment because we have stopped allowing personal payments to be sent to or from India.

If this was a payment for a purchase of goods or services, and not a personal payment, then you may contact the buyer and have him or her resend the payment as follows: (a) click the Send Money tab, (b) select “Goods,” and (c) provide a shipping address.

If this payment was a personal payment such as a gift, then we have requested that the sender find another payment method until we restore personal payments to and from India.

We are trying to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and we’re sorry for any inconvenience.

Thank you,
PayPal

I have written back to Paypal support to check on what has changed and what needs to be done next. But for now, if you are in India, and expecting a personal payment through Paypal, please hold on, the rules of the game seems to have changed.

[UPDATE]

Paypal has now officially confirmed that the personal payment issue in India will continue to be shut down for a few more months. The issue has cropped up because of the regulator ( Reserve Bank of India) asking Paypal to abide by the new regulations. You can read the entire story on Paypal’s blog here.

[UPDATE 2]

You can now withdraw your Paypal funds in India using XOOM. You can read my story titled [India] Withdraw Your Paypal Funds Using XOOM for further details.

  1. Same thing happened with me..if you get any updates from Paypal please update this article.

  2. Is it because Paypal is trying to figure out some internal screwups or is it because of some change in the finance regulation policy in India?

  3. One of my cousin is in India right now and she wanted the money to be transferred to her boyfriends (who is an indian). The transaction happened two days and then got reveresed. They need this money badly. I guess now i need to head over to Western Union.

  4. Hello Vaibhav,

Aplogies for the issues caused. We at Paypal, are trying to address some questions from our business partners. We have put up a hold against only the personal payments. Commercial payments ( like your’s is a advertising fees)are still allowed.

We hope to get the personal payment feature working again, sometime soon. Will keep you posted.

    Again, apologies for the inconvinience.

    Thanks
    Paypal Team

  5. I think Paypal Wants to close their operation in india. We all knows that paypal is biggest and there is not another option, but This doen’s mean they can do any thing to customer. When ever another option available, I will be the first customer to change from paypal. I have also got payment from chitika and donated to one charity organization, Paypal reversed my transaction and my paypal balance is in Negative.
If They have changed policy, they must notify customer and must not allow transacation, What is meaning of reversing trasaction after 5 days of transaction completed. How we can trust paypal in future that our balance is actually ours?

  6. My payments have been reversed too. What’s happening?

  7. You are not alone.

    Many of us are affected.

The comment from Paypal above is not true. The issue is not limited to Personal Payments, our Advertising Payment from Infolinks has also been reverted after being in credit for two days.

This is not fair. Some people like us even withdrew the amount and now the Paypal balance is in negative. Why should we suffer due to an arbitrary decision.

  8. Same thing happened with me.I’am also thinking now we need to head over to Western Union.

  9. Yes……. The paypal is not fair….. they have charged 66.73 USD as the reverse charge after sending the amount back to the sender.

They could notify the sender while he send that amount to me… and the reversed amount is not yet reached my senders paypal account.

Does the paypay is “Day Light Robbers”

  10. Hi, Thanks for commenting, paypal was indeed very unprofessional in what they did, anyway it seems the problem is solved now

  11. MORE BAD News:

The payment that I withdrew on Feb 02, 2010 never got credited to the bank and now shows ar “REVERSED”.

What the hell, it is their fault and they have charged $30+ for this. What are they doing.

    Anyone else got the reversal?

  12. +1 Sarbjit. Same thing has happened with Me. Feels like kicking the guys at Paypal..they literally should be sued for playing with our hard earned money.

  13. Hi!!
I am Rakesh from Andhra Pradesh. I tried sending money to my parent using Paypal as i am in US. They withdrew the money the same day ( i guess on 2nd Feb) and now their Paypal is showing negative balance. This sucks. I have written to Paypal support but all i have heard back is that they will resolve the issue soon… Does anyone of you have any idea about when will this issue be resolved?

  14. WTF… the paypal transfers to India will be shut for a few months.
