Toyota to recall 40000 New Hybrid Cars (Reason: Software Bug)

This is hard news for those of you bought Toyota Hybrid cars in 2010, you might have to send the car back as Toyota is recalling around 40000 of its new Hybrid Cars.

The decision to recall the cars was taken after a software bug was found in its ABS technology. Toyota will recall 437,000 vehicles worldwide, including the latest Toyota Prius and Sai, along with the Lexus HS250h.

Last week, the company admitted a problem with the software that controls the anti-lock braking system of the 2010 model of the car and said it had found a solution for cars that started to roll off of the assembly line in Japan last month.

Last week Toyota posted a $1.7 billion profit for the quarter ending December 31. The company also upgraded its forecast and is projecting to end the fiscal year in March to an $880 million profit. The company previously forecast a $2.2 billion loss this year.

In the wake of the recalls, Toyota’s share value has dropped about 20 percent.

Bharti Airtel, one of India’s largest telecom provider has announced the launch of its mobile application store, Airtel App Central.

With the launch of Airtel App Central, mobile customers of Airtel will be able to access around 1250 applications spread across 25 categories including games, books, social networking, business etc. Users will be able to purchase apps without the need of any credit card. All the apps purchased through the Airtel App Central will be billed directly to the account and will be reflected in the monthly bill or will be deducted from the prepaid talk-time. Airtel App Central has apps for as low as Rs 5.

Airtel App Central apps will be available for download across 550+ mobile devices. The app store has both free as well as paid apps.

In order to visit the Airtel App Central, from your Airtel mobile phone, visit Airtel Live and browse into the App Central. Airtel mobile subscribers can even SMS app to 54321 to receive the direct URL of the app store.

You need to have a working GPRS connection on your phone to make use of this new feature.

Woot.com is famous in the US for selling a new item everyday at discounted prices. 24HoursLoot.com is a similar website which caters to the Indian market. 24HoursLoot is a Pune based startup which provides with a new item everyday at deep discounted price online. The company provides shipping of products to anywhere in India.

The items which get featured on 24HoursLoot range from T-Shirts, Toys, Electronic Products to Furniture and more. A new item is released every midnight at 12AM Indian standard time, seven days a week. If an item sells out during its run (i.e. for next 24 hours), a new item will not appear until the next release time.

The website doesnt require any signup. You can simply select the product and buy it online at 24HoursLoot without any signup or registration.

24HoursLoot also has a exchange policy. A 15 days period is valid for you to return/exchange your order. The exchange policy is valid only in a situation where 24hoursLoot has delivered an item of incorrect size, color or design. Under such circumstances, the shipping costs for resending the item shall be borne by 24hoursLoot.

In my opinion, this is a niche when it comes to Indian e-Commerce market. The real challenge which the startup will have to face is the demand generation. Jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.3 with PwnageTool 3.1.5 (Mac Only)

If you are Mac user and would like to jailbreak the latest iPhone OS 3.1.3, now, the iPhone Dev Team is back with a new version of PwnageTool which can jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.3.

PwnageTool 3.1.5 is right now only available for Mac. The download is free of cost.

iPhone OS 3.1.3 is not a major upgrade and only fixes a few issues. iPhone Dev Team says

We aren’t revealing any new exploits to Apple with this jailbreak. Everything here has been used before, it’s just a straightforward port of Pwnage2 and 24Kpwn to the new firmware. It’s possible the new firmware was released largely to flush out new exploits before the next big release. We won’t be biting.

Send and Receive Fax with GreenFax

If you are planning to say good-bye to your conventional fax machine and instead move over to something more cost-effective, easy to use and always on, you might want to checkout GreenFax.

While i have written about many free fax services, the fact of the matter is, these services are not that great when it comes to mission critical faxing. For mission critical faxing, you need to have a pro account and in this article, i will walk you through some of the cool features offered by GreenFax.

1.) With GreenFax you can both send as well as receive faxes. The fax is directly sent to your inbox. If your computer or mobile device can open a PDF / TIFF, you can read the fax from that particular device. (You have the option to receive your inbound faxes in either PDF format or TIFF format)

2.) GreenFax offers a pretty neat send-only service for faxes to US and Canada. The send-only option is basically a pay-as-you-go service, you get charged 7 cents for the first page of any fax and 5 cents for additional pages. The site also offers international faxing, which can come in handy in time of need.

3.) You can even send your inbound faxes to multiple email accounts. GreenFax allows you to add up to five email addresses to your account.

4.) GreenFax offers a cancel-anytime policy which applies to all of their service plans. You can cancel any time and GreenFax will promptly refund any unused portion of your payment.

5.) When it comes to sending Fax, GreenFax will retry to send the fax 3 times (at 5-10 minute intervals) in the case of a busy signal at the receiving end. If all 3 attempts result in busy signals, the job will fail and the sender will receive a failure notice.

6.) GreenFax also offers a email-to-fax feature which allows users to send fax directly using the email.

7.) GreenFax supports outbound faxing of documents and files in the following formats: Adobe PDF, Microsoft Word (doc), HTML, Microsoft Excel (xls), Rich Text Format (rtf), Text (txt), GIF Image (gif), JPEG Image (jpeg, jpg), Tagged Image File Format (tiff, tif).

8.) With GreenFax, you do not get a busy signal. What this means is, that you can receive multiple faxes simultaneously. You also get Local numbers which are available for 150+ area codes (US only).

In my opinion, moving to a paperless faxing mechanism is the best option for our future. As per a report, it is estimated that conventional fax machines consume more than 200 billion pages of paper each year in the US alone. If just 5% of this faxing were done paperlessly, this would save over 1 million trees per year.

Jailbreak iPod Touch 1G, 2G and iPhone 2G, 3G, and 3GS with sn0wbreeze v1.5

If you are a regular reader at Technofriends, you must have already read my earlier post Jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.3 with Sn0wbreeze V1.4 , while sn0wbreeze v1.4 was good, it had no support for iPod Touch 2G.

The latest version of sn0wbreeze i.e. sn0wbreeze v1.5 has added support for iPod Touch 2G as well. All in all, now sn0wbreeze v1.5 can jailbreak the iPod Touch 1G, 2G and iPhone 2G, 3G, and 3G[S](old bootrom & non MC).
